The Adventure Begins....

Let me just say that the kick-off to Learn & Play was awesome! It was so great to see a packed room for two sessions full of curious staff ready to start an amazing adventure together. It was also great to finally meet Michael Stephens in person, since I have been fan of his blog for a long time. There were several themes to the day. Those that particularly stood out to me....

  • Our customers are ready to tell the library's story. We just need to open up the avenues for them to do so. They are talking about us, but we aren't where they are. Will they keep talking if nobody is answering? Not likely....

  • Too many signs are roadblocks to service. We've been saying forever that nobody reads them....it is time to take them down. Hmmm...what "signs" do we have on our website?

  • Replace fear with curiosity. Maybe if we get just curious enough to go ahead and try something that is unknown, we will find out that most of our fears were unfounded.

  • Play!...more on that later.

Thank you to Michael and the entire team that made Learn & Play a reality!

It was a great presentation that was probably the most unique of its kind that I have attended since I have been a part of CML. We are encouraged to not only learn, but to PLAY on the clock? Priceless.

I am all about this!

You are sage. I am new to this and need lots of help or at least input. I saw your meebo widget, though, and just had to have one of my own. Thanks for sharing so much great information. I was at the presentation, too, as well as the early one by Helen Blowers before she signed on at CML. Way cool. See you in the bloggosphere.
